Letter 158

Simple Truth

Christians who believe the Bible is perfect look “up” to it. Those who correct the Bible look “down” on it. Which are you?

The Greatest Generation

We have all heard the generation that fought and won World War II referred to as the “Greatest Generation” and indeed they were. Liberals laud them unthinkingly when it suits them. But let’s examine this generation a little closer:

  • They believed homosexuality was wrong and beat homosexuals up when encountered.
  • They thought men should work and their wives should keep the home & raise the kids
  • They thought that fighting wars was a man’s job
  • They thought being unemployed was dishonorable
  • They paid their bills
  • They thought freedom was worth more than their lives
  • They thought the USA was the greatest country in the world
  • Most of them attended church regularly

Americans, Diluted by Hollywood

Almost universally Americans have been raised on movies. They think like movies, they relate to movie characters and the standard movie format has been burned into their thinking. How many movies have they watched where “the Bad Guy” did terrible things and grew in power and authority. Then, just before he wins his plan is magically overthrown…“and they all live happily ever after.”

This template is ingrained in our national psyche. Therefore, as we watch what seems to follow a typical movie script unfold throughout our country, we have a false confidence that says, “Don’t worry, the bad guys will lose and the good guys will win…“and we’ll all live happily ever after.”

Guys, this is real life, not a scripted Hollywood thriller! I too agree that the unbelievable events assaulting our minds daily seem like they could only occur in the unrealistic world of Hollywood fantasy. But they aren’t. They are real. Police officers are being murdered. Elected officials’ families are being made rich with sweetheart deals and their criminal acts are being ignored. All this while anything good is coming under the attack of the reigning forces of evil. The sexual perversion of the Left has gone beyond the imagination and that it is accepted and considered normal has rocked the sensibilities of moral Americans. Our government has been kidnapped via a fixed election and those in power frantically seek to consolidate their death-grip on power. Our Nation’s enemies grow stronger each day while our military attempts to enlist perverts into its ranks, embracing national disaster.

Yet Americans think that exposing obvious corruption and funny memes will somehow win the day…“and we’ll all live happily ever after.” Here’s a horrible truth. Whenever Communism took over a country the generation alive at the time fought against it but never prevailed. Check out Russia, 1917, Cuba, 1958 and Vietnam, 1975. We may be witnessing the death of our country and way of life.

Meeting the 7000

John & Jacki Walters

Brother John Walters is not a pastor. I don’t believe he has ever pastored a church or even been called to preach. He has a history in construction with a good, general all-round knowledge of construction techniques. He is retired. But, rather than chasing a little white ball around a golf course or sitting in a boat all day drowning worms, he and his wife, Jacki, bought a motorhome and then drove up the perilous Al-Can highway to Alaska. They drive or fly around the state to help missionaries with building projects. You have no idea what a help and encouragement this sort of ministry is in the Lower 48 let alone up in the cold expanses of Alaska. What fruit will your efforts bear at the judgement?

Beware!

“To tolerate is to accommodate, to accommodate is to appease, to appease is to concede defeat.” – Frederick Forsyth

Fight On!

While the American Revolution raged in the Thirteen Colonies, the conflict also manifested itself west of the Allegheny Mountains. Part of that wilderness war was the siege of the fort at Boonesborough. Surrounded and cut off, the vastly outnumbered settlers put up a staunch defense. But there was nothing they could do when the Indians shot fire arrows onto the roofs of the fort’s buildings setting them ablaze. Anyone foolhardy enough to venture out onto any roof would be made short work of by the guns of hundreds of Indians. Yet that is exactly what one young lad did. He scampered onto the roof and, for what seemed like an eternity, methodically extinguished every fire even as bullets tattered his clothes and sent splinters of wood flying all around him. His mission complete, his assailants saw him stand, call out an insult to them and then leap back down into the fort. Fight on!

Want to Survive?

There are basically two kinds of disasters that can befall a nation: manmade and natural. The Internet is full of “sure fire” ways to survive either kind. Every kind of survival technique is offered: Buy gold & silver, hoard food, buy guns and lots of ammunition, find a place to hide and wait it out, trust God and everything will be OK and countless others. But “what saith scripture?” The Bible gives an example of someone surviving each example.

Natural disaster -The book of I Kings records the results of a great drought that struck Israel during the time of the ministry of Elijah the prophet. Elijah is directed to a widow woman. Not only had she not hoarded any food she didn’t even have enough for her and her son. Yet, she saw to it that the Man of God was fed first…and she and her son survived the drought.

Manmade disaster – In Jeremiah 38 the prophet Jeremiah had been lowered into a miry pit. A slave, an Ethiopian named Ebed-melech pled with the king to let him take Jeremiah out of the pit before it killed him. He was permitted to and God spared him the judgement He wrought on Israel. Then in Jer. 39:16-18 God tells Ebed-melech that He will deliver him from the armies that were overrunning Israel.

In both cases people survived by taking care of the man of God. What? Oh! You think I’m just saying this so all of us preachers will be taken care of. Well then, simply don’t follow my advice and you will have outsmarted me.

I personally view myself as just a church member & if things go south I plan on following the above biblical examples and taking care of my pastor as best I can.

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel. Prov 27:9

Dear Samuel, I really appreciate the publications and articles you have produced that are encouraging me to believe that the KJV bible is the only inspired and preserved Word of God. I am also realising the need to be part of a Biblical church, meeting in homes like the Early Christians, under a plurality of elders rather than an ordained clergy. So I wondered whether you could help me to resolve one issue that I have, by shedding light on the following statement: “King James gave the translators instructions intended to guarantee that the new version would conform to the episcopal structure of the Church of England and its beliefs about an ordained clergy. The translation was undertaken by 47 scholars, all of whom were members of the Church of England, and all except one were ordained priests. Archbishop Richard Bancroft, who was the chief overseer, insisted on having a final say, making fourteen changes, of which one was the term “bishopricke” at Acts 1:20.” This statement suggests that the Greek text was doctored in some way, so as not to undermine the traditional church hierarchy, and that none of the translators would have wanted to question their own positions and authority as ordained priests, despite what the Word of God actually says. Thanks very much for any insight you might have on this matter, Tim.
